Chicago Sports Rundown 10/30/11

A quick synopsis of each of Chicago's professional athletic teams minus the Sox because fuck them.

Not a whole lot going on with the lockout, baseball season just ending, and the Bears on a bye.

HAWKS: The Hawks took last week's post to heart and immediately got a shootout win over the Ducks at home. Emilio Estevez' advice to triple deke on each shot didn't do any good, after a game long strategy of flying V formations, and Goldberg had a poor showing in goal.

More after the jump...

Because the logical punishment for a chronic drunk driver and alcoholic is to have him coach a youth hockey team.

Following that the Hawks got blanked at Carolina, and won 5-2 at home vs. Columbus on Friday night behind two quick goals from Viktor Stalberg to start the third. The four points put the Hawks on top of the division and 3 points ahead of Nashville. Up next they'll face the current second place team in the division on Monday vs. Nashville, but they'll be missing Dan Carcillo for the second game of his two game suspension after his dangerous hit during the Canes game. Following that will be away games on Thursday and Friday nights against the Panthers and Lightning, who've both started the season well and sit at 12 points.

BEARS: With the team on a bye, the big news this week is the team's decision to release safety Chris Harris. Lovie had had enough of his lack of consistent play and ultimately benched him after allowing a 73 yard Matt Stafford bomb in week 6. But honestly, its a move that needs to be made for a rapidly aging team, and with young guns Major Wright and Chris Conte, gives the team a speed boost. His newly vacated spot was filled when the team signed rookie linebacker Jabara Williams out of Stephen F. Austin, where he was an all conference first team selection, and a third team all-american. The Monday nighter next week in Philly should be a good one, and the bye week will give the defense a few extra practices to gear up for the dynamic (dog murderer) and entertaining (soulless) Mike Vick.

CUBS: As expected Jed Hoyer was named G.M. and was the footnote to the Theo stories following the Red Sox collapse in September. The first priorities for the dynamic duo will be (presumably) finding a new manager and implementing the strategies that won the Red Sox their two World Series in the last decade. You can scroll down this page and on the right hand side find a few more issues that Theo will have to address, including Ramirez, Pena, and Dempster. With free agency starting on November 1st I wouldn't be surprised if Theo makes a few moves early to try to free up space to try to land Fielder. Not saying it'll pan out but that's my gut feeling.

BULLS: Last I heard Boozer and Noah were seen playing some pickup in Chris Bosh's driveway.

And believe it or not one of the NBA's most marketable players in Derrick Rose is against the NBA salary cap. Shocking. The lockout drags on and on and on...and casual fans get more and more turned on to hockey.

NBA lockout post coming this week.
